Curated in association with the youth of Pridelines - an educational, supportive and safe environment for GLBTQ teens in Miami-Dade – we present a program of short films that embrace the reality of coming out,  and living life young and queer in the U.S.

Queer Streets, Dir. Alex Waterfield, Sarah Feightner, Brooke Sopelsa, U.S. 2006, video, 40 min WORLD PREMIERE. Fact - queer youth make up approximately 20-50 percent of the 20,000 homeless young people in New York City. In this snapshot true story, shot over one summer, and centered around Sylvia’s Place a homeless shelter for queer youth, (if there was an humanitarian award for selfless contributions it would surely have to go to the mentor, charge and Director of Sylvia’s Place, Kate Barnhart) the filmmakers follow the lives of seven LGBT teenagers: Kelly, Antoine, Isyss, Kristen, Eliseo ,Benji and J.D. as they tell their personal stories about knock-backs, addictions, ambitions, hope and a fierce determination to escape the streets and make it.

Seoul to Soul, Dir. Paul Detwiler, U.S. 2006, video, 18min. EAST COAST PREMIERE. An adopted Korean teenager journeys from a strict Mormon upbringing in Utah to Southern California. Struggling with his cultural and sexual identity he embraces a tumultuous life of raving and drug trafficking. Through a spiritual program of recovery, Wade, supported by friends and his lover, makes peace with his Asian-Gay-American self.

Damage, Dir. Allie Sultan, U.S. 2005, video, 9 min. FLORIDA PREMIERE. A quiet high-school student takes matters into her own hands to get the girl she wants.

Team Queen, Dir. Leah Meyerhoff, U.S. 35mm 4 min. FLORIDA PREMIERE. The new girl in school is thrown into a topsy-turvy madhouse in this gender-bending, fire-breathing, post-punk rock ‘n roll prom tale scored by Triple Crème.

The Walk Through Closet, Dir. Matt Mills, 2006, DVD, 5 min. FLORIDA PREMIERE. A young gay teen comes to terms with who he truly is in this liberating documentary. GLBT youth are here and Fabulous!

Total running time: 76 min.
