Three years after Spanish filmmaker Emilio Martínez Lázaro explored the ups and downs of relationships
in the hit The Other Side of the Bed, he and screenwriter David Serrano explore, with this follow-up, what
happens when some familiar characters, finally ready to commit, discover that their girlfriends have a
few surprises up their sleeve.
Rafa believes to have found happiness with Pilar, who loves and cares for him with her own unique style.
Meanwhile, best friends Javier (Ernesto Alterio) and Pedro (Guillermo Toledo) have found “the one” in
Marta and Raquel, respectively. But, while the four are having dinner the night before Javier’s wedding
to Marta, she slips off to the restroom with Raquel, and it soon becomes apparent that the quartet’s
dynamics are more complicated than they initially appeared.
As Javier and Pedro slowly find out what the girls are up to, they are sent into a rollercoaster of sexual
confusion that puts their whole lives, options, and plans into question. And when they meet the intriguing
Carlota, the boys become even more confused…and a little too dependent on her.
Choices are clearly abundant in The 2 Sides of the Bed; part of the fun is watching the multiple
misunderstandings and relationship-swapping that ensues – set to seamless musical bursts of dance and
song. If you enjoyed last year’s MGLFF entry 20 Centimeters, then you definitely will enjoy The 2 Sides
of the Bed. In Spanish with English subtitles.
